Women's Wellness

Are You Sick Of Cramps? Feeling Teary? Cranky?

We provide Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture for hormonal imbalance.

When our hormones are out of whack, it can really get us down and make us feel quite miserable.

There are many reasons this may occur and Traditional Chinese Medicine aims to find the root cause and bring your body back into balance and harmony, allowing your body to function optimally so that you can feel your best.

Hormonal imbalance in women leads to symptoms such as period pain, digestive upset, fluctuating moods, headaches, and so on.

Period Issue

According to TCM, when our bodies are balanced there should be no pain with menstruation and there should be a good flow including – colour, consistency, amount and duration.

Hormonal imbalance can manifest in many ways, and therefore TCM diagnosis is based upon individual presentation. Our practitioner will thoroughly assess your menstrual cycle and general health which will help to understand your body and treat the root cause.

The On Acupuncture

Why Chinese Medicine For Hormonal Imbalance?

The area of women’s health has been overlooked by western medicine until recent times, and has little to offer to the many women enduring pain and suffering due to hormonal imbalances.

While acupuncture has been used in Asia for thousands of years, it is becoming increasingly popular globally. Research is now emerging that supports its use for a number of women’s health issues, including the symptoms of:

Acupuncture for Stress and Anxiety

Common causes for PMS

Stress and emotional upset are common causes for PMS, and from a TCM perspective, can disrupt the free flow of qi (energy), resulting in an array of symptoms including emotional imbalance, neck/shoulder tension and skin breakouts. Other women may experience digestive upset, such as bloating, loose stools, constipation, cravings or an altered appetite.

The general recommendation for women experiencing cycle or hormonal imbalance is weekly acupuncture treatments for at least three cycles. Our practitioner will work with you and prepare an individualised treatment plan; acupuncture may be used alone or alongside other treatment methods.

Menopause

The symptoms of perimenopause and menopause can be frustrating, embarrassing and often debilitating for many women. Western medicine often prescribes hormone replacement therapy for those women who are struggling with difficult transitions into menopause however recent research has shown that this treatment may also come with certain health risks. Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment for menopausal symptoms is both safe and effective and many women notice improvement in their symptoms after a few treatments. Patients regularly report considerable decrease in frequency and intensity of hot flushes, improved sleep and improved focus and concentration.

At The ON Acupuncture, your wellbeing is our priority and we offer an integrative approach to healthcare, working alongside your other healthcare providers when relevant to help you gain the best outcome.

What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine treatment that involves inserting very fine needles into specific points of the body to support natural healing, improve circulation and help restore balance. It is commonly used to support pain relief, stress management, sleep, fertility and overall wellbeing.
Is acupuncture painful?

Most patients experience minimal discomfort during acupuncture treatment. The needles used are extremely fine, and many people describe the sensation as mild tingling, warmth or slight pressure. Treatments are generally relaxing and well tolerated.

What conditions can acupuncture help support?
Acupuncture is commonly used to support a wide range of health concerns including back pain, neck pain, headaches, migraines, stress, anxiety, sleep difficulties, fertility support, muscle tension and general wellbeing.
How many acupuncture sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your health concerns, symptoms and treatment goals. Some patients notice improvement after a few sessions, while chronic or long-term conditions may require ongoing care and a personalised treatment plan.
Is acupuncture safe?

When performed by qualified and registered practitioners, acupuncture is considered a safe treatment. Our clinic follows professional hygiene and safety standards using sterile single-use needles for every treatment.

What is the difference between acupuncture and dry needling?
Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine principles and focuses on supporting overall balance and wellbeing. Dry needling is generally used to target muscle trigger points and musculoskeletal tension using a different clinical approach.
